Genkai Battle (Open/Party of 2)

[Luka Kurokawa]

Luka decided to make another trip up the spire. Every day she went, she seemed to get a little higher in the tower than before. Other days, she didn't bother climbing and stuck around the bottom to clear out the 'stores.' Lots of strange winged creatures seemed to take up residence around here. From what Luka noted in books and other media sources, generally the big birds were at the top. That was what Luka wanted to take down. She always had her eyes on the bigger prizes available. She was just waiting to see what she could have the opportunity of fighting.

Her stock of weapons was slowly beginning to accumulate just as her abilities were. Other people seemed to be growing faster than her. Did people grow at different rates depending on their abilities as well? Perhaps she would learn this as they went. Everyone was developing abilities, some were the same, many of them appearing at different times. What decided it? So many questions.

It was another journey up the tower for Kate. She'd had a day off and gotten in a good deal of sleep before the Dark Hour had struck, plus she'd prepared a good light supper before hand so felt quite energized as she ascended the spire once more. It was damned good exercise too. No wonder she'd been feeling chipper. On top of everything, she'd been getting more archery training in at the center. She felt just a little smug that she was rising in the esteem of even the more tight-arsed traditional Japanese archers who frequented the place.

Rounding a corner, she noticed a young girl with long hair that she recognized from the big fight with the Cerberus monster. She'd been one of the heavy hitters for that fight. Kate recalled also seeing her at that initial meeting but she couldn't recall her name.

"Hello," she called to her politely. "I remember seeing you at the meeting and the fight with the giant dog. I'm Kate. Taking in the sights?" she added in jest.

Oh it was that lady from those battles and stuff. She was at the meeting too, wasn't she? I'm hoping the top of this place will have an even better view. She had an honest, but straightforward expression to the sarcasm. Whether or not she understood the nature of the statement was anyone's guess. But, her attention turned to the sound of more demons entering the area. They were demons she was all too familiar with. They seemed to be the most common thing in this place. They're coming. I've got the bird and the bat. You can have the weird lady. She already knew the one thing's weakness after fighting it so many times. Luckily, she had these wind needles to strike them. Best of all, she had a new ability that recently came up.

Summoning her persona, Luka tossed several of the needles in a few different directions. Her persona then redirected a few of them to the two different targets she had. As that happened, she pulled out her blade and jumped into the air. A faint aura glowed around her for a moment before she disappeared completely. A flash whirled around the battle field hitting both the bat and the bird at that point. The flash, of course, was Luka who sped herself up to hit both of them at the same time. By the time she stopped, both demons had been lobbed clean in half. As their body pieces fell to the floor, they dissolved away. Flicking her sword to clean off excess blood, Luka began wiping off the rest with a cloth she began carrying around. She figured the other person could handle that demon just fine if she wasn't done already.

Kate couldn't help but smile at the girl's attitude. Not in a bad way, she actually found her rather endearing.

"I'll take care of it," she said calmly.

She'd fought this kind of bird-lady thing before so she knew what to do with it. The creature did a strange dance in the air, shaking it's attractive human part but although Kate smirked a little as a ridiculously stupid saucy thought crossed her mind, she still drew her bow and fired an arrow straight at it, hitting it in the belly and knocking it to the ground.

It shrieked in pain but Kate ignored the sound, instead drawing another arrow from her quiver and nocking it easily, fired another shot at the bird. It wailed in pain and managed to create a restorative light around itself that perked it up but Kate wasn't giving up. She fired another couple of arrows at it and when the bird started to sing weakly, she fought off the drowsiness. Instead of trying to aim with a wobbly eyesight, she switched to her hammer.

She grabbed its handle and ran straight up to the bird woman and with a hard swing, crushed her skull at last, killing her and silencing that sleep-inducing song.
