Kate really hadn't thought this through. She cursed herself. She hadn't thought this through at all. She'd underestimated how freaky the spire really was.

She'd just evaded some Shadows and ducked into an empty room to gather her thoughts. No doubt she could fight these things but she didn't like being alone and she wasn't sure she was even going the right way. She'd copied some of Lucretia's notes on the building's plans, with her annotations about the changes but she wasn't certain she was reading them correctly.

She bit her lip absently.

I really... really hope I haven't gone and gotten my fat ass lost, she thought.

[Tristan Carter]

Tristan had been exploring the spire when a brilliant idea hit him: check everything. While the idea was laughably bad, it did have some merits. Clues to everything that was going on likely weren't all out in the open. On top of that, he may avoid some unnecessary fights. As such, he was in the corner of an empty room, overturning random boxes and things, when a familiar face busted in.

"Heya, Kate," he said with a wave. "What brings you here?" Suddenly, Tristan could hear the sounds of pursuit. He readied his gauntlets with an annoyed smile on his face before looking at the woman. "I take it your friends are simply late to the party?"

Kate was almost startled when she heard Tristan approach. "Oh, hi Tristan," she said kindly. "I joined Lucretia here once on a whim and I got interested in exploring the place myself. It's a little weird how this Dark Hour can change space this way. I think I might've taken a wrong turn somewhere," she admitted and laughed.

She hoped she didn't sound nervous.

The sounds of approaching enemies drowned her mirth though and she whipped her bow off her shoulder. "Are you sure they aren't yours?" she countered with a wry smile.

A large blue bird soared into their location, followed by an armed, seemingly naked woman. Kate eyed the bird and set her jaw. "Leave the bird to me. If it's what I think it is, there's going to be a lot of fire."

Sure enough, the first thing the bird did was circle her, utter a raptor cry and cast a seriously strong blast of fire right on her.

Kate shrugged it off. Her defense against fire was perfect.

Although she couldn't attack with Antiope's elemental attack or her hammer, Kate was very confident about her skill with her bow and Antiope's slashing attacks. She took aim and loosed an arrow at the bird, striking what appeared to be a critical hit of sorts, as it brought the bird to the ground, but not out of the fight yet. It screeched at her and Kate felt her defenses waning, leaving her vulnerable, but she didn't worry too much.

She fired another arrow at it, confirming the devastating effects her arrows had on it. She kind of felt sorry for it because she knew what it was, but she also knew she had to put it down. It feebly tried to cast another fire spell at her, but it was futile. Kate put it down at last with another two arrows.

Tristan smiled as the shadows appeared, although it was because of Kate's remark. He was stopped from making a comeback by a burst of fire from a purple woman. He turned and summoned Odysseus behind himself. He somehow doubted that fire would do much good, but that was alright.

The boy cast his darkness spell, which seemed to eat away at the light of the room for as long as it remained. The demon, obviously not happy with being attacked, tried a slashing attack that stopped upon contact with Tristan's skin. The boy started to smile as Odysseus cast the darkness spell again. When the darkness abated that time, the demon was nowhere to be seen.
