Making acquaintace to fellow investigators (luka and takada)

Fighting had died down,and a stillness fell over the overgrown street. Jacob overlooked those still standing. The girl that had emerged carrying a bokken. She had used it to exterminate the assailants in the front with extreme prejudice. That had left the giant in the back. And then, to jacob's surprise, another person had emerged from the undergrowth. A military man by the looks of him. Quite spiritedly, the man had assaulted the stoneskinned giant. There predicatbly wasn't much damage that was done through normal fire from a sidearm.

Then however, there was quite an impressive show of resourcefullnes, and with that, the fighting was over. Jacob overlooked the scene of battle. There was the light crackle of flames dying out on the fallen tree trunk. But other than that, there was only silence. He decided he would be the first one to break the silence.

'Well, now that that's over it... anyone have the faintest clue what's going on here? I just find a monster in my basement one day and shit's not made much sense ever since.'

That last battle seemed to be a bit close for comfort. It was the first time another person actually potentially saved her since she started exploring too. Honestly, she was really starting to hate the enemies here. Especially the ones that resisted her attacks. Getting a hold on her physical condition, the girl followed the guy with the bad leg along with that other guy that showed up right at the end. Now she was out here with two adults in the middle of this youkai infested area. Just what kind of situation was this? It wasn't until the man she originally approached spoke that the silence was broken. Luka decided it would be best to give the man that much information at least.

Youkai. That's what these seem to be. I've been fighting them for a little over a week now. I actually don't know much else about them. All I know is that I've been killing them and they keep coming back. That, and they most certainly don't listen to reason. That should at least tell him that there is no point in reasoning with them. It would be troublesome to see someone die a preventable death when trying to reason with a youkai.

What about this other guy though? He seemed like a trained professional, at least by looks. Did he know more than her? Either way, he also had a gun. But it seemed that he was used to using one. Luka simply stayed silent for now; opting to stay silent and let someone else speak.

If nothing else, at least he could at least add 'tree' to the list of things he's killed people with. If that thing could even be considered a person in the first place. Still the day wasn't a waste either way. He took a moment to put away his knife so that he could reload his sidearm before approaching the pair that had been under attack, keeping the arm holding the gun at his side but with his finger still hovering over the trigger. Better safe than dead, yeah?

He let the two have a short exchange before deciding to speak himself. At least the man admitted he knew nothing, but the girl... Youkai, really? She was looking to fairytales to explain the present situation? His lips curled into a frown as his gaze trailed off to the left. No, he couldn't blame her. For all he knew, she may as well be right. It was definitely supernatural in nature, but... for now he turned his attention to the other man. "Somehow I don't think you came by that weapon legally. I should really confiscate it, but there are more pressing matters." He gestured towards the sickly green sky with his free hand. "I would still recommend you get rid of it. Apply for a permit, pick up a shotgun and tell them it's for target shooting." What he didn't say was that it would probably take months to approved, if ever. On the other hand even touching a gun without a permit was incredibly illegal so it was actually hard to tell just how many laws this man was breaking just by possessing it. The number was probably outstanding.

A deep sigh escaped the back of his throat as he looked around again, checking to make sure that the coast was clear. "I'm with the SDF. Lieutenant Colonel Ha-... Takada." He hesitated a moment before stating his surname. His first name was a bit of a sore point for him, so he avoided using it whenever possible.

Youkai? The mention of mythological beings provoked an incredulous stare from Jacob. Surely, whatever the true nature of these beings was. It was probably more logical than the assumption that they were dealing with mythological creatures. Jacob decided not to pursue the matter for now, and segwayed the conversation to the soldier.

"What else would you have me do? I needed some sort of self defence against the monsters out here." He gestured over to the girl's bokken, and then to his bum leg. "And as you can see, martial arts aren't exactly an option for me"

Now however, he had a question too. "So some SDF grunt is involved with this too? Tell me, is this some kind of government conspiracy? or are you just as lost on what in the blazes is going on as I am?""

The conversation seemed to take a few turns after that. Going out from what she had said over to the man owning a gun which was apparently illegal. Luka wouldn't know much about law as it was, so she would be clueless about this fact as well. She decided to sidestep that little thought and continue forward a bit. Well, I agree you would need some type of protection, but it'll take more than that to simply get by. I'd honestly suggest staying indoors where it's safe. Then again, this man probably wouldn't listen to her. It would probably be better to suggest something that would protect him from the inevitable. And if you really insist, you shouldn't go out alone. A gun will only be so effective. Indeed. She had already come across enemies where attack completely bounced off.

Something else the man said bothered her a bit. SDF? The government was in on this now? Just where was this situation leading to? Well, government or not, this guy probably saved her life back there. She could trust him. And the other guy? Well, he certainly wasn't malicious. It might be good to help him too. Actually, if it isn't too much trouble. Could I have some form of means to communicating with you two in the future? A cell phone number is sufficient. She figured it would help in the future to gather contact info. Something was definitely ominous about all this. Only a handful of people seemed to be aware of the situation. That meant only a handful of people would be able to answer the call. It would be best for them to at least try to stick together.

His eye couldn't help but twitch when the other man referred to him as a grunt. Grunt?! He was a high ranking officer! It took almost almost two decades to achieve this rank! For that outburst, he chose to ignore the man's questions for the most part. That'd serve him right. All he had to offer was, "Your leg isn't my concern, the gun is." With that, he turned his attention to the girl. At least she didn't seem to be completely hopeless. 

After a moment of mental deliberation, he holstered his gun at his hip so that he could pull a notebook from his back pocket and flipped through it until he reached a blank page whereupon he'd pull a pen off his vest to quickly scratch down his number before tearing the page off to offer it to the girl. "This isn't a social line. Only contact me if you have some kind of useful information." It was a bit gruff, perhaps rude even. But there wasn't much else for him to say. He had a job to do, and if she could help, then great. If not, then she would be safer staying out of the way. They both would.

It seemed the officer was quite offended by Jacob's derisive way of talking. Jacob didn't care. If the dude felt like throwing a fit over Jacob not giving a damn about his rank, that was his perogative. And if that meant they wouldn't be working together, then so be it. And so he crossed out the possibility of working with the man in the near future.

The girl seemed more amiable though. Even if she requested some rather personal information from Jacob. He wasn't really comfortable giving her a private number, but it seemed prudent to keep in touch. So he compromised. He reached into his pocket and pulled out a business card. "You can reach me on that number. don't worry about being waysided by a secretary or somesuch, I'm a freelancer that works on his own. Now, I would like to rereat to my apartment before another wave of these creatures find us, but would you mind giving me a number of your own? I might need your help again if my investigation reaches a point of breaktrough.

Thankfully, neither of them seemed to be too opposed to giving her a phone number to contact. She could understand any reason they might reject her idea. She was obviously the odd one out of the three. They were two older men and a young girl; and the girl was asking for their numbers. She was a little annoyed that the Colonel guy figured she might use it for something other than importance. But again, she could understand his caution. after receiving the two numbers from the men, she gave them her own number. This is just in case one of us finds something out. I'll be in contact with you if I find anything important. Likewise, if something big was about to go down, it would help to have more people in the know.

She also opted to ignore the argument about the gun. She didn't want to get involved with it. She may have been partially intimidated by the age difference they had. And mister. . . Peeters. She took a glance at the card to see the name. I ran into a girl with a power like yours before. She could read vulnerabilities like you, but she could also talk to people nearby through her mind. I'm wondering if you have that ability as well. She wanted to see if those two abilities correlated at all. Oh. By the way, my name is Luka. For future reference. She had the other two's names, so it was only fair. Still, talking with adults like this put pressure on her. Even if she was basically an adult herself, she felt a little overwhelmed. She was getting used to it, though. Slowly but surely thanks to her work.
