Name: Hanataro Takada
Age: 32
Date of Birth: October 27th
Birthplace: Osaka, Japan
Gender: Male
Sexual Orientation: Heterosexual
Face Claim: Iroquois Pliskin - Metal Gear Solid
Appearance:
Height: 6'2"
Distinguishing Features: His nose is slightly bent from being broken as a child, although it can be hard to see if you aren't looking for it. He also has a number of scars over his chest; one on the right side of his stomach from a knife, another diagonally over his chest from a different knife, and three bullet holes near his shoulderblade on the right side of his back.
Class: Persona-User
Arcana: Magician
Occupation: JSDF Lieutenant Colonel
Starting Equipment: As a member of the SDF, Takada has lawful access to a nearly inexhaustible supply of military grade ammunition for a variety of firearms, which is level two and deals piercing damage. He also carries a combat knife, which is level one and deals slashing damage. Furthermore, his gloves have metal knuckles, letting him use them as a weapon in hand to hand combat if it comes to that, which are level one and inflicts strike damage.
Personality: Takada's attitude is heavily dependent on what he is doing at the time, or the situation that he finds himself in. When on duty he is usually stoic and dedicated to the task at hand, to the point where he will even work with criminals in order to take down some greater evil. He has been reprimanded for his, sometimes extreme, methods on more than one occasion, but thus far has avoided any official punishment. This is largely due to the fact that despite his questionable morals, he always seems to succeed where others would fail as a result of his pragmatism.
It has been rumored that Takada has a death wish, and that might not be far from the truth. He's all too willing to take risks that others would balk at without a second thought and is only concerned with his health insofar as maintaining an acceptable level of physical ability for the SDF, often replacing a meal with a cigarette and glass of scotch. All in all, he lives the bachelor life to it's fullest. In spite of is love for alcohol, however, he is careful never to let himself become inebriated. There are too many stories of some soldier getting drunk and ending up doing something they would later regret. Or not, in the case of the man who thought it would be amusing to pull the pin on a grenade as a prank at a party.
Outside of work, Takada is much more relaxed. He spends most of his day wandering around different wards in a sort of unofficial patrol. When he thinks nobody is around, sometimes he'll even stop to play in a playground, or challenge himself to a game of hopscotch. Why he does so is a mystery to everyone but himself. But aside from that, he's somewhat more willing to let lawbreakers act freely so long as it's something minor like jaywalking.
Likes: When it comes down to it, Takada is a man who enjoys simple pleasures. His senses have dulled somewhat from the abuse that they've been put through over the years, so he seeks out extremes. Spicy, bitter, sweet, nothing is taken in moderation. He prefers people to be as loud as possible as well, although that has more to do with the tinnitus that developed from years of using firearms without proper protection which makes it difficult to hear subtle noises. He also watches some anime in secret, which usually manifests itself in a relevant outburst if someone says something he strongly disagrees with in regards to the series.
Dislikes: Generally speaking, the only thing that Takada dislikes are certain types of people. People who are soft spoken, as it's very difficult for him to hear them when they speak; people who let themselves become inebriated, especially if they do something stupid; and lawbreakers, since they cause more trouble for him than it's worth.
History: Hanataro never knew his biological father. His mother, Ria, had married a wealthy businessman named Ryuto Takada due to an arraignment made by their parents when they were still children. Ryuto himself was meek and withdrawn, which angered his wife. As such, she spent her days doing as she pleased. Hanataro was the product of one of her many affairs, although she let Ryuto believe that the boy was his true son. Ria was physically and emotionally abusive to both her husband and her son, but Ryuto never acted in the defense of either. He simply tried to grin and bear it, and attempted to teach Hanataro to do the same. Which he did, until a certain incident when he was nine.
One day, upon returning from school, Hanataro heard screaming coming from the kitchen, then a loud thump. When he ran over to investigate, he found his father laying on the floor with a pool of blood around his head, and his mother standing over him with a bloodied frying pan. He tried to grab her to make her stop, but she simply hit him with the back of the pan hard enough to slam him into the nearby wall with nothing but a broken nose to show for his effort. She yelled something unintelligible and hit Ryuto again, who had just barely managed to deflect the blow with his forearm- although the way that the arm crumpled under the blow made it clear that he wouldn't be able to do it again. The man gurgled an apology as Ria raised her weapon one last time... only for her to throw her head back and howl in pain, dropping the pan onto the counter.
It had all happened so fast that it took Hanataro a moment to realize what had happened. There was a kitchen knife hilted in his mother's back. His hands shook as he yanked it free, shuddering when the warm blood coating the blade ran down his hands. Ria quickly turned around and grabbed Hanataro by the throat, digging her nails into his flesh hard enough to tear it while screaming obscenities at him. He tried to struggle free, but it was hopeless. So as his vision began to grow dark, he did the only thing that he could think of. He thrust the knife into her stomach. When she didn't release him, he pulled the knife out and stabbed again. And again, and again.
Hanataro walked over to his prone father and offered a hand to help Ryuto to his feet, sporting a wide smile even with his body and clothes stained crimson. "We're safe now..."
The court ruled that the killing of Ria Takada was self defense. But that didn't satisfy Ryuto. More than anything, he had become terrified of his son. Despite the years of abuse at the hands of Ria, the memory of his son stabbing his wife to death was too ingrained into his mind. It didn't help that Ria had revealed Hanataro's status as a bastard child moments before her demise. So, in less than a year after the incident Ryuto abandoned Hanataro at an orphanage. The other children and staff knew why Hanataro was there, and so they too avoided him out of fear. With the exception of the classes held at the orphanage, he spent the rest of his childhood locked away in his room, learning to hate the world and everyone in it.
Visits from families looking to adopt were rare, and children actually being adopted were rarer still. Hanataro was not one of the lucky few who were chosen. He remained at the orphanage up until he finished school. During his time there, he'd heard the staff praise the Japanese Self Defense Force on numerous occasions. It made him wonder if he joined, then would he finally be respected as well? So, the first thing he did after finishing school was apply to the SDF.
It wasn't easy. Although Japan had been forbidden from having a standing military after World War Two, the SDF was about as paramilitary as you could get. The training was intense compared to what he had been through before, but Hanataro was determined to excel at any cost. His dedication eventually paid off, and he left the orphanage behind in favor of the life of a soldier. During his time in the SDF, Takada mellowed out significantly compared to how he was before. He served honorably for over a decade, often working closely with the police on a variety of operations and earning a few commendations along the way.
One day, he found himself walking through Kabukicho in search of another SDF member who liked to frequent the area. There was a loud slam, and when he turned to see the cause, he saw some kind of shadowy beast perched on top of a car. It made as strange gurgling noise before lunging forward, prompting him to quickly draw his sidearm. He wasn't fast enough, and he had to raise his forearm so that the creature bit into his arm instead of taking his head off. The barrel of the gun was shoved against the beast's head just before he pulled the trigger. Instead of the expected burst of gray matter and bone fragments, it's head simply popped before the body dissolved into a light mist. He didn't have time to think about it. A hiss alerted him to the presence of yet more creatures behind him. He spun, quickly leveling the gun to start firing. Three shots dropped the two nearest shadows, but yet more were slithering out from underneath the cars, or slinking out of alleyways. Takada cursed under his breath, unable to reload the gun quickly with his injured arm. So instead, he simply turned and fled. Eventually his legs gave out and he dropped to the ground on all fours, minus the injured arm, with a loud grunt... only to notice a pair of shoes at the edge of his vision. He lifted his head to see a strange bearded man standing over him. "Who... the hell're you?" The man simply smiled as Takada's vision began to go dark. "I am thou."
Takada quickly bolted upright with a gasp, panting heavily as he moved a hand to his forehead. Had that all been a dream? He tried to stand, only to wince as pain arced through his body. His eyes fell to the other arm hanging limply as his side, wrapped tightly with bloody bandages. He grit his teeth together as his gaze moved further, looking at the opened first aid kit laying by the bed with it's innards spread out over the floor. He let out another annoyed grunt as he got out of bed, grumbling to himself. It was time to go figure out just what the hell was going on in this city.
OOC Name: Howl
Notes: Takada can read, speak, and write in both Japanese and English fluently; and knows a few phrases in several other languages, including German and Chinese.
He often wears an earpiece in place of a radio due to his tinnitus. As such, sometimes he'll comment to himself as though he is wearing the radio even if he isn't, or if it has been rendered non-functional for whatever reason.
Unless he knows beforehand that he'll require heavier armaments Takada usually carries only a handgun as far as firearms go. He favors the SOCOM mk23 and Beretta 92FS, and will typically carry one or the other as his service piece.
