Kate was back at the university for a little break from trudging around the spire. She was tired of dealing with endless stairs. The gloomy hallways of the university were frankly a more attractive alternative and would contain less complicated foes to fight. She needed the break. She hadn't been back here since she ran into Frederick.

She wandered round the hallways, poking into auditoriums and classrooms just out of curiosity and reminiscing a bit about her own university days.

Heh, I sound like an old woman, she thought. I wonder what that cute professor's assistant from the Medieval Literature classes is up to. He was hot.

Marina walked through the hallways cautiously. It was interesting, exploring a different university from her own. Even if it was during the time when all the shadows were about. From what she had understood, this area had stronger shadows than she had been fighting before. She wasn't particularly looking forward to running into any of them, but knew it was an inevitability. Even if she didn't like it, she had to get stronger. And apparently getting stronger meant beating up stronger shadows.

Speaking of shadows, Marina thought she heard a noise. She gripped her parasol tighter. Slowly, she approached the nearest classroom. She opened the door quietly and peaked in. There didn't seem to be anything inside. She entered the room carefully, keeping note of her surroundings. She soon relaxed as she fully entered the room. It was empty. Maybe she would get lucky and not encounter any shadows here. That would be a nice change of pace for once.

Kate whirled around at the sound of approaching footsteps, just to see a young woman with a parasol and two Shadows closing in on them both quickly.

"Look out," she called to the girl. "I'll take care of the bird, they're tricky to hit!"

She drew her bow and unbuckled her quiver, picking one of her new arrows. She wasn't sure about these, the ominous, evil sense she got off them was weird. She drew her bow back as the crow-like Shadow swooped for her and fired. She struck a decent blow that staggered the bird but it countered by firing a blast of fire at her.

Kate blinked, letting it wash over her and responded with another arrow to the bird. She watched it almost fall to the ground but it recovered and countered with a large sphere of darkness that it fired at her. Kate cringed from the hit but shook herself down and drew another arrow, firing it upon the bird. It was weak now and just shot another blast of darkness at her but Kate grit her teeth and killed it with a last shot of her bow.

Marina heard a voice telling her to watch out and before she knew it she got hit in the back by something. She fell down to one knee, quickly turning around and getting back up to see what hit her. It was a book. She could barely believe it, books were attacking her now? She loved books, she never imagined having to fight one. She first tried to whack it away with her parasol, but it didn't seem to do anything to the book, at least nothing noticeable. The book then opened and spat out a ball of darkness that hit her in the chest. Now she knew what hit her before.

Marina summoned Apsaras and first cast the spell that made her stronger. Next she then pointed her hand towards the book and both her and her persona snapped their fingers. A ball of ice appeared above the book and fell on top of it. It didn't like that or at least as far as she could tell. It was hard to tell how a book felt. The book seemed to be charging up for an attack and Marina quickly snapped her fingers again, summoning another ball of ice. It still wasn't quite finished, so she did it one more time, just as the book shot a much bigger ball of darkness at her. She took the hit and fell down, as the last ball of ice she summoned crushed the book. Marina felt exhausted, but soon felt that familiar feeling of soothing rain wash over her, easing the pain.
