The neighbourhood watch (open to 2)

A lone figure sat on a bench in the dea of night. His cane held loosely in his right hand. Jacob was waiting for the lost hour to roll around once more. Jacob hadn't yet tangled with the shadow creatures that manifested in the 'normal world' during the lost hour. They seemed quite different from the denizens of the mirror world at least in appearance. It seemed prudent to test out whether or not that difference also extended to how the beasts fought and acted.

Jacob had come quite prepared. If things went south, he was sitting right in front of his apartment complex. He had the door keys on hand. If something too large to handle showed up, he could at the very last buy some time by interposing the front door of the building between himself and the hypothetical monstrosity.

Now however, Jacob waited. He checked his watch, the display read 23:59. And then, it pinged over to 0:00. However, it somehow became stuck halfway through, the displayed numbers jumbled together as if stuck between a split second. Jacob looked up. The sickly green was coming, and with it, the masked beings that haunted the neighbourhood at night.

Tonight, Lucretia was specifically investigating the type of creatures that lived in the neighborhood.  She had studied the creatures somewhat, but she wanted to get more details.  There was definitely some connection between the area and the creatures that lived in it.  This was true of both other worlds, but it was different in the portal world.  She likened their reason for being there as being more like animals, or even humans.  They just liked that kind of terrain and found it comfortable to live in.  The creatures in the midnight world were a little different.  They definitely belonged in each area, but the reason for that was more linked to the idea behind each place.  That's what she wanted to analyze tonight.

She could vaguely sense an unfamiliar person here.  She was getting better at identifying those people, though it was much more difficult than identifying enemies or people she had already scanned.  It was enough for her to at least know what direction they were in, so she could find them with her actual eyes instead of her third eye.  She just figured the guy lived there, and considering she had a weird looking eyeball monster behind her, she figured he'd understand the situation.  She opted to just scan him and wave.

[Lucretia Odovacar]

His skills seemed similar to hers, but hers were much better.  She took the liberty of scanning them all, and reporting the results directly into this guy's brain.  She was used to talking via her telekinetic abilities rather than just speaking out loud.  It was almost easier now.  Granted, she still had a very heavy Italian accent even when she spoke through her head. 

The real problem here was that she was probably the more competent fighter given how his leg looked.  That was a problem because she was barely passable.  These small fry should be fine, but it was still rather annoying.  It was so much easier to let people that could hit hard beat up the creatures while she watched.  Given this was a neighborhood, she didn't want to destroy it too badly either.  She was probably pushing it with some of the other places and causing too much damage was likely to cause a panic.

Fortunately, these things were weak enough that just beating them over the head with a nearby steel pipe was enough.  It wasn't very elegant or clever, but it worked for now.  Hopefully her ally would be able to contribute enough damage to finish these things off quickly.

for a moment, a voice talked in Jacob's head. It wasn't one he heard with his ears, and yet he could still understand the words as if he had heard them. They were quite a mechanical sounding listing of weaknesses of the shadows that ahd arrived just now.

The realyed information was quite handy. And the subsequent roughing-up of the shadows was welcome too. The eagle recovered from the beating first and dove to the as of yet unidentified woman, but it was quickly put down by a shot from Jacob's pistol. A bullet in the heart was all it took, as the relayed information indicated.

The slimy maya came second, and it was coming right for jacob. It seemed to be a facsimile of those tacky plastic flamingos you often saw in stereotypical suburban gardens, molten down into an animate blob with a plastic stand sticking out. It had repurposed this stand as a makeshift lance, and was somewhat pathetically charging for jacob.

the first shot from jacob's pistol rippled it's already damaged surface layer, the second pierced its mask and popped the creature like an overstretched water balloon.

As the creatures faded away as usual, Jacob turned to the unidentified woman. "care explaining how that telepathy thing works?"
