Name: Yumina Makino
Age: Sixteen
Date of Birth: May 21
Birthplace: Shinjuku, Tokyo
Gender: Female
Sexual Orientation: Heterosexual
Face Claim: Shinobu Nunotaba - A Certain Scientific Railgun
Appearance:
Height: 5'4"
Distinguishing Features: Occasionally she wears glasses, but so far they're only needed when trying to read things up close.
Class: Persona-user
Arcana: The Emperor
Occupation: 2nd year student.
Starting Equipment: A fairly sharp knife for stabbing with, which deals piercing damage.
Personality: Growing up, Yumina was taught the importance of being polite to others, even when they don't deserve it. For the most part she tries to live by this idea, despite the occasional slip up. Anyone met at school or other public areas get treated courteously. Following rules is important, whether they be social or legal.
Yumina also tries to be friendly, but that can easily backfire. She's the kind of person who would go out of her way to help any friends, to the point that they know better than to ask for her assistance. If given the opportunity she'd end up creating a complicated strategy that requires more work than necessary. There's no doing things halfway with her. Caution and methodical planning always get the job done, eventually. Plus most of the faster solutions are too boring. Yumina quickly loses interest when problems are too straightforward. She isn't particularly talented at hiding her true feelings, which tends to give the impression that she only cares while she is the one who gets to be in charge...
...Which is probably true. The girl can be a little too focused on her need to do everything perfectly. It wouldn't be a problem if someone smarter than her pointed out where she went wrong. The anger sets in when there's an idiot trying to tell her what to do. Yumina is pretty quick to judge whether someone is worth listening to or if it is safe to ignore the person's input. There would have to be several instances of outdoing Yumina in whatever area to prompt her to reconsider.
A desire to be independent drives her to always do the best job possible. Asking for help defeats the whole purpose. The idea of owing a favor bothers Yumina enough to go pretty far to avoid being in debt. Additionally, she does not want to rely on a plan that depends on somebody else doing a specific thing to work. One of these days she'll be alone, and then what will happen? Disaster. No one else can be trusted to always be near when needed--not every time--so it's safer to just learn how to do everything herself.

History: Yumina was born the youngest of two daughters to a Japanese man and Korean woman. The four of them lived in a rather spacious apartment, primarily due to the minimal amount of furniture than actual size. With only one source of income they couldn't afford too many extra things. More often than not, any "new" present or clothing Yumina received were handed down from someone else.
The early years were pretty fun, until it came time to start school. Socializing was all Yumina really cared about back then. Only weird kids bothered to study extra, and she didn't want to be associated with them. Eventually her parents started to get more hands on and it difficult to get away with being lazy. Her father tried to explain learning things now would lead to a better future with more options available. The poor only have room for the things they need to survive. It's the people at the top that get to do whatever they want.
The lectures didn't made much sense at the time; Yumina tried putting in more effort during school to get him to stop talking about it. After a while everyone went back to their normal, distant selves.
Life stayed relatively stable until age twelve. That was the time her father came home saying that he lost his job. Since the rent couldn't be paid, it was necessary to move out. They'd be staying with some aunt in Toshima for a little while. Once they recovered the family could move out again. At least, in theory. Not much progress ever got made towards leaving.
Throughout all this Yumina didn't bother to complain. She knew enough to realize that it wouldn't accomplish anything. Around this time she started noticing more events and opportunities that had to be passed up. It became difficult to hide her family's situation from the new classmates. Now she started to understand why learning was important.
Casually wandering through life would lead to more of this. Did she want to stay here forever? No. How does one move up to a better place in life? Education.Or marriage but it's too early for that. Trying to reach some well respected position like a doctor or lawyer would put Yumina on the best path going forward. It didn't have to be exactly those careers; landing anywhere close would be good enough.
The act of earning better grades required a lot more effort than expected, but she wasn't about to admit that to anyone. It would sound like she inherently isn't good enough to be one of the best. The work just had to be done. As long as nothing distracted Yumina from her goal, she'd be fine until the university entrance exam.
Of course, this was before the whole business with demons and Shadows started.
One time Yumina stayed up until midnight reading a good book when the power suddenly went out. Normal enough. While wandering around the house in search of a candle, she found a strange box in the living room that looked a lot like a coffin. That would have been something she noticed earlier, if it actually existed. For now Yumina rationalized that this must be part of a dream and went back to bed. Once the same thing started happening every night she knew this was more than some hallucination, and started exploring the world outside.
The plan was to stay close to home in case something happened. This worked for the first couple of minutes until curiosity lead her to go even farther. Upon exiting the neighborhood, Yumina soon ran into some bizarre creature that looked to be attacking one of the coffins. It took a second to process what exactly was happening, which gave the monster time to shift its attention onto her.
Now, she had brought a knife from the kitchen, but that was intended for humans. Maybe to scare off some animal. In this situation, she couldn't guarantee it'd be useful anymore. Regardless, this wasn't the time to turn around and run. Too late to be scared now.
As the creature drew near Yumina prepared to attack. There must be a way to injure it enough to get the thing to leave her alone. Once the enemy reached striking distance, a faint glimmer of blue light surrounded the girl a new being appeared in front of her. This surprise fairy seemed a lot nicer, and even attacked the shadow thing. After getting struck by the pink attack, the guy sat around doing nothing. Taking advantage of the opportunity, Yumina began to stab at the dark blob until it disappeared. After which, she decided to run home and locked the door. Whatever magical nonsense that was that just took place demanded a proper investigation. Something about this extra hour might prove to be useful.
