Contemplating the abyss (open)

Jacob was standing in front of the portal that had lead him to the mirror world some time before. Curiously, the thing was still active during the day. One would think someone would notice a swirling mass leading into a twisted counterpart of the neighbourhood.

Almost as if to answer this question, a hasty salarymen ran past jacob. He sailed right trough the portal. Yet his footsteps were still perfectly hearable. The reason as to why this was became evident by simply leaning sideways. The man was still there, running to whatever dead-end job he had.

Apparantly, there existed some distinction between Jacob and that man. It was a reasonable leap of logic to assume it had something to do with the strange gun-like device and the flaming humanoid it summoned. If this was the case. He had now found a reasonable point to further inquire on. If only he had leads more solid than a lsot hour and a mirror world which were both unfalsifiable due to their nature, and thus impossible to prove the existence of.

And then jacob realized he must look quite weird right now. Just standing around in the middle of the street, seemingly staring at a nonexistent object.

Elizabeth Jemm, surprisingly, had yet to encounter anyone who refused to give her space since she moved to Japan. She had expected the Japanese Paparazzi would have taken some interest in the recent orphan of a successful American movie producer, but she was wrong. Her uncle, trying too hard to get his niece to accept him, constantly gave into her whim, whatever it was. Even if she honestly hoped he would refuse her, nothing could sway him from being a complete yes-man of a tool. Even her classmates refused to talk to her, surprisingly.

She was walking to Yoyogi Park, hoping something interesting would happen. Other than whatever had happened that one night, everything was staying the same, predictable way as it had since she had moved. She was curious about finding out more about that night, but she was scared. Sure, the angelic woman had killed that thing (probably), but what if there were more? What if there were too many for her to handle? Eliza knew exactly what would happen, even though she didn't want to accept it.

She was thinking about this as she neared the park. At the entrance, she noticed, was a man with a cane staring at what looked like a mirror. However, another man, this one wearing a suit, passed right through the mirror and didn't seem to notice it existed. Suddenly Eliza was reminded of the feeling she experienced as the thing approached her. She needed to know what the mirror was, and the man with the cane seemed to be able to see it. If that was the case, he might know what it was.

Eliza approached him calmly. "What's that?"

Jacob's contemplations were interrupted by the approach of a lady. Her words made him perk up his ears in honest interest. "So you can see it too? guess I'm not going insane after all then." He looked around. People were starting to take notice of Jacob and the unnamed lady standing smack dab in the middle of the street.

"Shall we move to a calmer place to discuss? I don't like the amount of peolpe looking at us. I feel like someone's about to call in the whitecoats to come pick us up." Jacob was quite familiar with the feeling. Even though he had lived in Tokyo for long enough to operate quite adequatly in japanese society, he still sometimes had the feeling he wasn't really wanted here.

Then again, what had he expected travelling to one of the most homogenous countries in the modern world. He stopped wondering and trailed off to a nearby bench at the side of the street. If the aldy was truly interested, she would follow his lead.

Eliza wasn't so much surprised by the fact that the man could see the thing as his word choice. "Guess I'm not going insane" didn't sit well with the young girl. The fact that he was making references to whitecoats didn't help much. Still, she followed as he limped over to a bench. He seemed lost in thought, but, then again, so was she. What could that one man, the one in a suit, simply pass right through the mirror? SHe assumed she was likely just too new at whatever was going on to understand, but it still through her off.

As she sat down, she extended her hand to the older man. "I'm Jemm Elizabeth, sir," she said calmly. One thing she was sure she didn't want was for too much attention as far as everything with that night went, and she was sure that night and the mirror were connected somehow. "Now, if you don't mind, could you tell me what you know about that mirror you were looking at?"

So, the woman wanted to know of the portal, or rather, what she assumed to be but a mirror. Jacob looked her over. She seemed a nice enough sort. "These mirrors... how long have you been seeing them?" He asked firstly. It might become important at some point later on.

And then he decided to follow up with some tangible information, just enough to not scare her off with naught but a wall of questions. "They lead elsewhere... To a place that so far has done its best to defy any sort of logical explanation."

Jacob had given a small snippet. He hoped the girl wouldn't be impulsive enough to meander on through the portal immediately after him saying this.
