Name: Valentin Ilyich Ulyanov, "The Russian"
Age: 26
Date of Birth: October 23rd
Birthplace: Krasnoyarsk, Russia
Gender: Male
Sexual Orientation: Omnisexual
Face Claim: Hazama, Blazblue
Appearance:
Height: 6'5"
Distinguishing Features: None, aside from his green hair and abnormal height.
Class: Persona-user
Arcana: High Priestess
Occupation: Money Lender
Starting Equipment: Valentin wields a length of razor wire which he is quite skilled in using and can perform a variety of amusing tricks with. It is level one and deals slashing damage.
Personality: Valentin is driven by only one motivation; his own amusement. No matter who is hurt by his actions or what kind of situation it creates, he will gladly continue for as long as it amuses him. Not one to easily give into baser emotions like panic or rage, the Russian is almost always seen sporting a wide smile in a wide variety of circumstances, never failing to get a hearty laugh out of whatever is going on, even if it's disadvantageous for him personally.
He is a person who will send someone on an errand that desperately needs to be done, then will deliberately create obstacles for them for no reason other than to see how they react to the added stress. In his possession is a 'black book' that is filled with secrets that he can use to blackmail others into doing his dirty work, collecting most of the information through his agents or by utilizing his Persona's special abilities.
Perhaps unexpectedly, Valentin will openly refer to himself as a villain and holds himself very flamboyantly, personally appearing to taunt an enemy or use his powers to antagonize them further by contacting them from a distance. His approach varies depending on the kind of person he is dealing with, and he makes a point to get underneath their skin as much as possible.
Likes:
Optimists: He finds people who see the world as they wish it was more interesting than those who see it for what it is. As such, these are usually the types of people he will accept as clients, as his goal is to make their dream into a reality. Regardless of what that may be.
Scheming: What if life without a plan? Valentin has plans within plans, and backup plans for those plans within plans. It's difficult to catch him off guard, although still possible. He spends most of his free time thinking up contingencies in the event that something goes wrong.
Directing: As someone who enjoys making sure everything is in it's proper place, Valentin takes great pleasure in micromanaging his peons and personally supervising their actions when possible. If you want something done right...
Cleaning: A dirty workplace belies a dirty soul. His office is spotless, and he takes the time to clean it from top to bottom after every client that visits. Of course he wouldn't be caught dead doing such menial labor, but someone has to do it in the end.
Dislikes:
Unexpected Situations: If something happens that Valentin didn't plan for, he will likely enjoy it. But only to an extent. In the event that his plans start to unravel he will quickly attempt to eliminate the problem.
Alcohol: He's been apart of enough drunken antics to last a lifetime just from watching his father indulge. Vodka, a Russian's kryptonite. Needless to say, he avoids it whenever possible.
Traitors: Not falling into Valentin's carefully articulated plan is just fine. But if someone under his pull were to actively rebel against him? That person would learn to very much regret their decision.
Law Enforcement: Although they helped him come into power, they've served their purpose. Now they're just a thorn in his side, interfering with his operations and all. Needless to say, he doesn't go out of his way to assure their wellbeing if they fall into his lap.
History: Valentin was born to a fairly large family with three brothers and two sisters. He was the second oldest of the boys, which meant that he wasn't favored by his father for taking over the family business. The family business in this case being arms dealing. Val's father was Vladimir Ulyanov, a man wanted by Interpol on too many charges to count. But crime was lucrative if nothing else. Although their mansion was relatively hidden away from the rest of the world, it was a luxurious life. But Valentin wasn't satisfied with such simple pleasures.
His eldest brother, Alexei, was an incompetent fool. But that didn't matter to Valentin. He was the oldest so clearly he was the most fit to take over the operation once Vladimir retired. This arraignment went on for some time before Val finally grew sick of being second fiddle to Alexei and being devalued by Vladimir's idiocy. He would be rid of them both soon enough, and then it would be his time to shine...
It took years before everything was in place. He had to uncover all of his father's hidden accounts and the information to access them, as well as prepare a number of items needed for his new life. Fake identification, plane tickets out of the country, secure residence elsewhere... it was shortly after his 22nd birthday that he put his plan into motion. Using the information he'd gathered, Valentin drained the money from his father's accounts and funneled them into his own pockets, then contacted both Interpol and local law enforcement to give up his family's location. He fled the premises just as the Spetsnaz started to arrive on the scene... he later learned that his family, including both his father and Alexei, were killed in the shootout that followed law enforcement storming the mansion. The news brought a smile to his face. That just meant there were that many less loose ends to deal with.
For the first time in his life, Valentin was free to do as he pleased. Sure, there was the off chance that Interpol would discover that there was still a surviving member of the Ulyanov family, but what did it matter? Simply being related to a criminal wasn't a crime. Stealing his father's money probably was, but what were the chances that they would ever be able to trace it back to him? But now that he was in control of the vast fortune that his father left behind, he realized that he had no use for it. What could he possibly use it to buy that he hadn't already had under his father? The answered seemed obvious. The future.
There were hundreds of millions of people in the world that lamented the fact that they lacked the capital to achieve what they sought after in life. Why not provide that capital? Whether they succeeded or crashed was irrelevant, he could derive satisfaction from either result. So that just left location, a place where his efforts would be... 'appreciated' the most. It was Japan, of course. A people so high strung that the thought of dishonor was met with ritualistic suicide, where forests were filled with the hanging bodies of the dead. No matter the outcome, the clients that would burn the brightest would undoubtedly come from the land of the rising sun.
So, Valentin moved as much of his assets as he could without attracting any undue attention to the East before moving himself to Tokyo, the Japanese capital, and set up shop there. Business was doing very well. There seemed to be an unending stream of men and women who were desperate for a bit of extra coin. Most wanted to pay off debts, but Valentin refused them. He wasn't interested in the insects skittering along the gutter. He wanted people who desired more than their lot in life permitted them. Slowly he built up a reputation, even if most of it was built on hushed whispers.
But then, some of his clients started to disappear. That didn't sit well with Valentin, so he went to investigate the cause. The investigation eventually lead to the discovery of the Dark Hour. When he explored the area around where his last vanished client had lived, he found himself attacked by monsters composed of darkness. Instead of fleeing like a normal person, he simply found them fascinating and tried to inspect them further, despite their attempts to kill him. Eventually he found himself cornered, but when the monsters moved in to finish him off, a woman appeared, empowering Valentin and allowing him to turn the tables of the shadows. He didn't find the client he was looking for, but uncovered something even better. An arena where he could test the resolve of his clients... and dispose of the ones who didn't make the cut.
OOC Name: Howl
Notes: Valentin has an eidetic memory, which means that he has perfect recall of things that he has seen, heard, and read. It is a blessing and a curse, as there are some memories that he would love to forget but they will be with him till the day he dies.
He also gives people fake names when they meet. This way he can tell who was referred by who, as well as who will be getting a personal visit from him if the police start snooping around...
The razor wire that he wields as a weapon would eviscerate a normal person if they attempted to swing it around like he does. The trick is that his Persona is actually the one who manipulates the wires, although of course since he's controlling the Persona, he is still technically moving the wires himself.
